Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Leadership provides support to advance the mission of the Center of Student Engagement & Leadership within the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director will develop programs, resources, and systems that support the Jacksonville University campus community, specifically IFC, NPHC, and the Dolphin Productions Board. This includes supporting leadership development, campus-wide events and traditions, student-led initiatives in student activities and other Student Engagement programs. This position will work closely with students to initiate, plan, develop, and facilitate events and activities to enhance the quality of student life and University experience for all students. Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement & Leadership, this position is a 12-month, full time position with primary responsibility within Student Engagement & Leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly advising Dolphin Production, student-led programming board.

Duties/Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of the IFC (Interfraternity Council) and NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council) at Jacksonville University. 

  • Provide advising support to the Panhellenic, Interfraternity and NPHC councils as well as Order of Omega Greek Honor Society.
  • Provide support to individual chapter leadership and their chapters, alumni/alumnae, and inter/national headquarters.
  • Design, plan and implement activities and programs to benefit the IFC and NPHC community.
  • Serves as point person for all fraternity and NPHC expansion and extension efforts.

Oversee all aspects of Dolphin Productions, the student programming board, including training,
transition, advising, event coordination and assessment.

  • Supports the major Dolphin Productions events, traditions, and programs including Week of Welcome, Porter Fest, Homecoming, and Pancake Breakfast.
  • Effectively lead, motivate, supervise and evaluate student staff
  • Oversee monthly all-campus Late-Night programs with Dolphin Productions team.
  • Assist the Office of New Student Experience with summer and fall orientation.
  • Supervise student workers including handling daily tasks, scheduling hours, coordinating coverage of special events, and completing timesheets.
  • Manage the approval and posting of marketing materials on bulletin boards and building display locations including the review of materials, removal of outdated or no longer pertinent to the campus community in accordance with the Student Engagement posting policy and remove any notices displayed improperly.
  • Assist in budget management including tracking of expenses, gift card forms, and creating reimbursements for students.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and student focus with the ability to operate in a collaborative and professional manner with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse university community.
  • High level of comfort with frequent student contact and ability to advise diverse student groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully balance, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment, while providing superior constituent service.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to manage projects to successful completion
  • Experience in event planning and program management.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

  • Preferred master’s degree in higher education/student affairs or related field.
  • Or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four years of experience, on a college or
    university campus.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
